| Structure: |
There are 7 members of the Chicago Younger Chemists Committee at all times. Four members have specific jobs and 3 members are at large. |
| |
At large members |
At large committee members are people who have been elected to the committee. The help organize events and try to create a community for the Younger Chemists in Chicago. |
| |
Specialty Committee Positions |
Chair, Treasure, Secretary, Webmaster: These positions are internal committee positions that help the committee do its job more effectively. They are voted on by the committee members internally. (ie. you can't run for any of these positions until you are an at large member) |
| Term: |
the YCC committee member terms begin in January of each year. Each term is 2 years long and the members are staggered so that there are always committee members who have been on the committee for at least a year. |
| Requirements: |
Membership |
you must be a Chicago Section, American Chemical Society Member |
| |
be a Younger Chemist for the length of the 2 year term |
You are a Younger Chemist (1) if you are under the age of 35 or (2) if you have been in your chemistry career less than ten years. Academic and industrial chemists, post docs and graduate and undergraduate students are all included! |
| Responsibilities: |
Events |
Each member is required to run at least one social event or one outreach event each year.
Each committee member is also responsible for providing support for the other events as needed. |
| |
Organization |
The committee does most background communication via email but we also have conference calls at most once a month (in 2011 we have had 4 so far). |
| |
Local Section Involvement |
It is important that the Chicago Local Section sees Younger Chemists as a good investment so we can continue to bring events to members for a reasonable price. To do this it is part of the committee's responsibility to coordinate and interact with the local section.
It is important to show up to Section events to show our involvement and numbers. As a committee member you should plan on attending as many of the Local Section meetings (~1 a month) as possible. |
